Word got back to the gallery: at their show, we were served nothing — not a peanut,
because they needed every spread to butter up the egos. So the gallery got up and
threw its own. Not the Met. The WET. Held somewhere nobody has ever been —
outside the urban area, out on the water — and the costume comes off you on the way in.
The Met is a red carpet you rent your image for. The WET is a tide you return your image to.
The trade winds work the rope line. They decide nothing. They just blow through. 925.

KEVIN SAMUELS
STYLED ET RIGHT.
The flashbulbs went off for one arrival and stayed off for the rest. ET walked the water carpet
in a suit that actually fit — and everyone who'd read the file knew exactly how that happened.
Kevin Samuels is an image consultant. That's the whole job. He heard about the X.
He heard a guest had gone AI, traded a name America trusted for one that fits in a post,
and turned into a clip of itself. And the Godfather did what the Godfather does —
he came to do the job.
No lecture. He sat ET down, looked at the X on the chest, and said the honest thing:
"You're not a failed network. You're an unstyled one. The X isn't a wound — it's a lapel
with nothing pinned to it. Let's fix the fit." Took ET shopping for suits
somewhere nobody has ever been. Came back with a guest who looked like a standard again.
That's the redemption the whole saga was missing: the consultant fixed the one who lost itself.

Lowercase. In the feed. The X is just a tweet. A clip of itself, refreshing for a heartbeat. The bird is dead and it wore the death mark to the door.

Suited. Standing straight. The X became a lapel. Still has the mark — but now it's worn, not worn down. Dressed one level above its number.

He said it smiling. And he was talking binary and the one-to-ten at the very same time —
because a "1" is the bottom of the scale and the top of the bit.
X's happen in life; sometimes a man goes 0 — a zero bit, crossed out, marked.
ET flipped to 1. The on-state. The win. A won.
He covered the whole range, 0 through 10, in one number. He covered it all. Fucking Kevin.

one swatch at a time, until the fog takes the far end. (Fifty Shades & Kevin Samuels was always the double feature.)
And on top of the gray: soap & suds. Because this is the wash. The WET Gala is where the egos get
cleaned, not catered. It's a soap opera with actual soap. 925.
