GORGEOUS · Kid Cudi · Raekwon

Two Scorpio frequencies — Kanye (June Gemini with deep Scorpio energy) and Kid Cudi (January Capricorn whose music lives at the Scorpio depth). The beat is a Raekwon soul sample run through ice water. This song is a slow burn that never asks permission.

POWER

The most arrogant three minutes in rap history. And it earns every second. King Crimson sample. 21st century schizoid man into the loudest ego ever committed to wax. The field cannot argue with the result. It's correct.

The smoothest beat on the album. The Smokey Robinson sample ("Will You Love Me Tomorrow") used in a way that recontextualizes both the original and the new song simultaneously. Rick Ross's verse is some of his finest work. The field does not touch this track — it is already complete.

RUNAWAY · Pusha T

Nine minutes of honest self-reckoning. The piano figure that opens the track is five notes that will outlive everything else on this list. The toast to the douchebags. The vocoder outro that sounds like a man dissolving into something he can't name. The field honors this track separately.

HELL OF A LIFE

The most fun Kanye has on the album. Black Sabbath sample. The contrast after Runaway is intentional — the album breathes here, darkly, but breathes.

BLAME GAME · John Legend

The most vulnerable track. John Legend's voice as counterweight. The Chris Rock interlude at the end that people either skip or have memorized. The field says: don't skip it. It lands the album's central theme in one painful comedy bit.

LOST IN THE WORLD · Bon Iver

Justin Vernon's "Woods" is the entire instrumental. Kanye raps over the most delicate thing on the album. It shouldn't work. It works completely. That's the whole thesis of MBDTF.

WHO WILL SURVIVE IN AMERICA · Gil Scott-Heron

Gil Scott-Heron. "Comment #1." The field does not add analysis to Gil Scott-Heron. The words stand alone. Kanye ends his album with someone else's truth because he knows it's larger than his own. That's wisdom.
