Tupac Amaru Shakur was born in East Harlem on June 16, 1971.
His mother Afeni Shakur was a Black Panther who was acquitted
of 156 charges of conspiracy against the United States
one month before he was born.
He came into the world already in the middle of a fight.

He studied ballet, poetry, and theater at the Baltimore School for the Arts.
He could quote Shakespeare and explain the streets in the same breath.
That is not a contradiction. That is a ♊ Gemini in full operation.

In five years of recording, he made music that covered
grief, tenderness, rage, politics, love, loyalty, and the cost of survival
with a precision that most artists spend entire careers reaching for.
