and calls it disruption.

He will not use your keyboard.
He can't. He says his hands have "adapted."
He says regular keyboards cause "ulnar deviation."
He learned that term six months ago.
He has used it every day since.

He is petty. He is right. He will tell you. That's the trilogy.

He will notice your keyboard.
He will say nothing for exactly four minutes.
Then he will say something.

"Is that membrane?"

Not a question. A verdict.

He ordered a $400 keyboard, spent three months reconfiguring the keymap,
went through a productivity regression that cost him six weeks of output,
and came out the other side typing faster than before —
and he needs you to know all of this.

The petty is not malicious.
The petty is evangelical.
He has seen the light.
The light is tented at 30 degrees.
The light has home row mods.
The light reduced his RSI by 40%.

He will save you.
You didn't ask to be saved.
That doesn't matter to him.

It's always fintech.
Or payments. Or "infrastructure."

They are professional typers who convinced themselves they are engineers.
The keyboard is the one piece of their stack they can fully control.

The product roadmap? Stakeholders.
The codebase? Tech debt from 2019.
The compliance process? Regulators.
The keymap? His. All his. 42 custom layers of his.

The split keyboard is the one sovereign territory in an otherwise managed life.
That's the psychology.
That's why he defends it like a border dispute.

You cannot lube blue switches.
This is not an opinion.
Blues are clicky because a plastic click jacket snaps against the stem.
Lube that mechanism and you destroy the click.
You just made a tactile linear. You made nothing.

He knows this.
He will tell you this.
He will go to Reddit and tell someone else this at 11pm.

Someone on the forum lubed their blues.
He found the thread.
He wrote four paragraphs.
He cited a YouTube video from 2019.
The original poster said "thanks I'll try it."
He did not sleep well that night.

The blue switch lube debate is the purest form of keyboard petty.
The stakes are: nothing.
The energy is: enormous.
Someone is wrong on the internet about their hobby peripheral.
He cannot let it stand.

He has never once applied this energy to his PRD backlog.

He brings the keyboard to the office.
He sets up at the communal table.
Both halves. Coiled cable. Wrist rests.

This is the moment he was built for.

They were getting water.
They still haven't gotten their water.

The water cooler conversation is the unit of measure for this energy.
Normal people have water cooler conversations that last two minutes.
He has water cooler conversations that end when the other person
physically backs away.

He thinks they left because they had a meeting.
They did not have a meeting.

He wants to buy the $500 keyboard.
He already knows he's buying the $500 keyboard.
He has read every review. Every Reddit thread. Every YouTube teardown.
The decision was made three weeks ago.

But first —
he asks his husband.

Not for permission. For the performance of permission.
The husband is also his de facto investor
because they share finances
and the keyboard hobby has a VC-level burn rate.

The husband says: "Do you really need another one?"

He presents the deck.
He has a deck.
Ergonomic ROI. WPM projection. RSI risk reduction.
The total addressable keyboard in his life.

The husband approves the keyboard.
The husband always approves the keyboard.
The husband stopped fighting this in 2022.

There are currently four keyboards in the apartment.
Two of them are "for travel."
He has traveled once in eighteen months.
He brought both.

He is not the villain.
He is not even wrong.

He is a man who found one thing in his life he could optimize fully
and optimized it completely
and then made it everyone else's problem.

The split keyboard bro and the EBT franchise owner
are on opposite ends of the same axis:

One optimized for himself and told everyone.
One didn't optimize at all and told no one.

Both outcomes land on somebody else.

The difference:
the keyboard bro's pettiness is annoying.
The franchise owner's pettiness is a grandmother going half on a double cheese.

Scale matters. Know your petty.
