THE AXIS WOBBLES.
Earth is not a perfect sphere. The equatorial bulge — the extra girth around the middle caused by rotation — gives the Sun and Moon a gravitational handle. They pull on it. And the axis responds the way a spinning top responds when you push it: it wobbles. Not fast. Not dramatically. Slowly, continuously, over a cycle of approximately 26,000 years.
This wobble is called axial precession. The axis traces a slow circle against the background of stars. Right now that circle points toward Polaris — that's why Polaris is the north star. But Polaris is a temporary appointment. In 14,000 CE, Vega will hold that position. In 3,000 BCE, it was Thuban — a star in the tail of Draco — that the ancient Egyptians aligned the Great Pyramid's shaft toward.

THE SKY YOU WERE BORN UNDER IS MOVING.
The equinoxes are the two days each year when the Sun crosses the celestial equator — March and September. As the axis precesses, the position where that crossing happens against the background stars shifts. It drifts backward through the zodiac constellations at about one degree every 72 years.
This is the origin of the Age of Aquarius debate. When the spring equinox entered Pisces roughly 2,000 years ago, we entered the Piscean Age. It is now drifting toward Aquarius. Depending on how you draw the constellation boundaries, we're either already in Aquarius or within a few centuries of entry. The transition is not a moment. It's a gradient.

HE CLOCKED IT 2,200 YEARS AGO.
Around 190–120 BCE, the Greek astronomer Hipparchus compared star position records spanning centuries and noticed the equinox points were not fixed — they had moved. He calculated the precession rate at roughly 36 arcseconds per year. The actual figure is about 50 arcseconds. For 2,200 years ago with naked-eye observations and no telescopes, that is one of the most precise scientific measurements in ancient history.
