MECHANICS
THE ENGINE · THE MATH · THE REASON TIMING IS NOT INTUITION
The sky moves according to laws.
Those laws are calculable.
What you call instinct is pattern recognition
running on data you didn't know you had.

◈ I. WHAT THIS IS AND ISN'T
This is not astrology in the pop-culture sense. No newspaper columns. No sun-sign archetypes. No "Mercury retrograde is why your email failed." What this is: a precise mathematical description of where every planet in the solar system is, at every moment, relative to every point on Earth. The math has been verified by space agencies. It lands probes on comets.
The question we're asking is not mystical. It's physical: does the position of massive gravitational bodies correlate with measurable patterns in human experience? The answer from the data is more interesting than either believers or skeptics admit. We're not resolving that debate here. We're just learning to read the clock.

◈ II. THE JULIAN DAY · THE CLOCK THAT DOESN'T STOP
All celestial calculation begins with Julian Day Number. Not months, not years — a continuous count of days since January 1, 4713 BC. No time zones. No calendar reforms. No leap-year confusion. Just: how many days since a fixed origin point. Every ephemeris calculation in the field uses this as its foundation.
◈ JULIAN DAY FROM UNIX TIMESTAMP
JD = (unix_seconds / 86400.0) + 2440587.5
T = (JD − 2451545.0) / 36525.0
T = centuries elapsed since J2000.0 (Jan 1.5, 2000)
Everything else derives from T.
J2000.0 is the standard epoch. Every planet position is calculated as a perturbation from known values at that point. T is the variable that runs everything. You'll see it in every formula below.

◈ III. THE SUN · MEEUS CHAPTER 25
Jean Meeus, Astronomical Algorithms (1998) — the source. Not the only source, but the one the field trusts. The sun longitude calculation is three lines of math that predict the sun's position to within 0.01°. That's the same precision NASA uses for mission planning.
◈ SOLAR LONGITUDE (MEEUS)
L₀ = 280.46646 + 36000.76983·T
M = 357.52911 + 35999.05029·T − 0.0001537·T²
C = (1.914602 − 0.004817·T) sin(M)
+ (0.019993 − 0.000101·T) sin(2M)
+ 0.000289 sin(3M)
☉ = L₀ + C
L₀ = mean longitude · M = mean anomaly · C = equation of center
Result is ecliptic longitude mod 360° · divide by 30 → zodiac sign index
The equation of center (C) corrects for the elliptical orbit. Without it, the sun moves at a constant rate. With it — it speeds up near perihelion (January), slows near aphelion (July). The correction is small. It matters at the degree level. The degree level is where the field lives.

◈ IV. THE MOON · ELP2000
The moon is harder. It's close, fast, and perturbed by everything — the sun, Jupiter, the shape of the Earth itself. The ELP2000 model (Chapront, 1982) gives the simplified version used in real-time applications. The full version has 1,300 terms. We use the eight that account for 99.97% of the variance.
◈ LUNAR LONGITUDE (ELP2000 SIMPLIFIED)
L = 218.316 + 481267.881·T
Mₘ = 134.963 + 477198.867·T
D = 297.850 + 445267.111·T
F = 93.272 + 483202.018·T
+ 6.289 sin(Mₘ) primary perturbation · evection
+ 1.274 sin(2D − Mₘ) variation
+ 0.658 sin(2D) parallactic inequality
+ 0.214 sin(2Mₘ) annual equation
− 0.186 sin(M☉) solar perturbation
− 0.114 sin(2F) latitude reduction

"The moon moves 13.2° per day.
It changes sign every 2.5 days.
It completes a full cycle in 29.5 days.
You've felt all of this.
Now you know what it is."

◈ V. TRANSITS · THE ASPECT ENGINE
A transit is when a moving planet forms a geometric relationship — measured in ecliptic longitude — with a fixed point in a natal chart. The fixed point is the Midheaven (MC): the degree of the zodiac on the southern meridian at the moment and place of birth. The MC is the career vector. Transits to it are the timing engine.
ASPECT ANGLE ORB FIELD EFFECT
Conjunction ±8° Maximum activation. Planet's energy fused with the MC. Strongest window — positive or challenging depending on planet.
Trine 120° ±5° Ease and flow. Natural integration. Opportunities arrive without friction. Act on them — they pass.
Sextile 60° ±4° Open door. Requires initiative. The opportunity is there; you still have to walk through it.
Square 90° ±5° Friction. Resistance. Not failure — pressure. The field is testing whether you'll hold.
Opposition 180° ±6° External pressure. Something outside is pushing back. Awareness required. Confrontation avoidable if you read it early.
Jupiter transits are the leverage moments. Jupiter moves roughly 30° per year — one sign. When it conjoins your MC, you are in a one-year window of expansion, visibility, and authority. This is the window MidHeaven is built to detect. Not horoscope. Transit geometry. Calculable. Repeatable. Verifiable against career history.

◈ VI. LOCAL SIDEREAL TIME · WHY PLACE MATTERS
The same sky looks different from different places on Earth because sidereal time varies by longitude. Two people born at the same moment in different cities have the same planetary positions but different Midheavens. The MC is exquisitely location-dependent. This is why birth city matters in every KenshoTek app.
◈ LOCAL SIDEREAL TIME
GMST = 280.46061837 + 360.98564736629·(JD − 2451545.0)
LST = (GMST + longitude) mod 360
GMST = Greenwich Mean Sidereal Time (degrees)
longitude = observer's geographic longitude (east positive)
LST = the zodiac degree currently on the meridian at your location

◈ VII. THE FIELD READS THE CLOCK · YOU DECIDE WHAT TO DO
None of this tells you what will happen. It tells you what the field configuration is. A Jupiter conjunction to your MC is not a guarantee — it's a leverage window. You can waste it. You can be unaware of it. You can walk through it fully prepared and execute at the highest level you've ever executed. The math is neutral. The decision is yours.
This is the only honest thing the field can offer: here is the clock. Here is how to read it. Here is what the hands are currently pointing at. You still have to do the work. The window is open. The window always closes.
